1. Surveillance Officer x2 – NICD

Location: Western Cape & KwaZulu-Natal
Pay Grade: C2

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-year Nursing qualification
  • Registered with SANC as a Professional Nurse
  • 3 years of clinical experience post-qualification
  • 2 years of research or surveillance experience
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control
  • HIV counselling and testing certificate (advantageous)
  • Valid driver’s license (manual)
  • Enthusiastic and keen to learn
  • Own car preferred
  • Strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail

2. Surveillance Officer – NICD (Free State)

Location: Free State
Pay Grade: C2

This position has similar requirements as the one above, including nursing qualifications, registration with SANC, and experience in research or surveillance. The successful applicant will be responsible for surveillance activities and ensuring adherence to infection prevention procedures.

4. Medical Scientist – NICD (Sandringham)

Location: Sandringham
Pay Grade: MSP

Minimum Requirements:

  • MSc or equivalent in Medical Science
  • Registration with HPCSA (Microbiology)
  • ≥ 5 years of experience as a scientist, with at least 1 year of laboratory management experience
  • Expertise in bacterial, fungal diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and healthcare-associated infections
  • Experience in implementing ISO15189
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate students
  • Strong communication and analytical skills

5. Pathologist – NICD (Sandringham)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medical degree + FCPath or MMed in microbiology or clinical pathology
  • Registration with HPCSA as a pathologist
  • ≥ 3 years’ experience as a pathologist consultant
  • Laboratory management experience
  • Experience in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Familiar with laboratory quality assurance processes and medical conditions related to clinical microbiology

6. Medical Scientist (Entomology) – NICD (Sandringham)

Location: Sandringham
Pay Grade: MSP

Minimum Requirements:

  • MSc or equivalent in Entomology
  • Knowledge of arboviral diseases and entomology
  • ≥ 5 years of experience as a scientist
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate students
  • Willingness to travel for field-based entomological work
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
