The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), a key player in the South African construction industry, is currently looking for a Programme Manager: Research and Materials Testing to join their Engineering and Technical Services Department. This is a permanent position based at the Eric Molobi Centre for Research and Housing Innovation (CRHI) in Soshanguve, with an attractive salary package aligned to NHBRC salary grades. Key Responsibilities
As the Programme Manager: Research and Materials Testing, you will play a critical role in overseeing the management and strategic direction of the Eric Molobi Centre for Research and Housing Innovation. You will be responsible for:
- Budget Management & Financial Oversight: Develop and manage both operational and capital expenditure budgets, ensuring alignment with the approved objectives of the business plan. You’ll also ensure effective financial controls and reporting within the unit.
- Research & Innovation Leadership: Oversee and implement the research strategy, ensuring that all projects align with the NHBRC’s objective of technical excellence. You’ll play a pivotal role in driving initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and innovation within the construction industry.
- Laboratory Management: Ensure that all operations at the centre align with ISO 9001 standards and health and safety regulations. You will also lead the continuous improvement of operational systems and processes to maintain high standards of service.
- Team Management & Development: Lead a dynamic team, providing mentoring, coaching, and performance management. You will help foster a culture of continuous learning and ensure the professional growth of the team members.
- Client Relations: Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will be a key representative of the NHBRC at technical conferences and workshops, ensuring the Centre’s research contributes to advancing the housing and construction sectors.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: A Master’s degree (NQF 9) specializing in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology is required.
- Experience:
- At least 10 years of experience in the construction or building industry.
- Minimum of 5 years supervisory or management experience in a built environment, with direct responsibility for overseeing teams.
- Involvement in research activities, with at least two published research papers, preferably in material testing.
- Professional Registration: You must be registered as a professional engineer/technologist with ECSA or Pr.Sci. Nat with the SACNSP.
