About Transnet Engineering

Transnet Engineering is a division of Transnet, South Africa’s state-owned freight logistics company. Known for its expansive network and critical role in facilitating trade, Transnet operates across various sectors, including rail, ports, and pipeline infrastructure. The Compliance Specialist positions are based in Kilner Park, Pretoria, and will be part of the Supply Chain Management department.

Position Overview

The Specialist: Compliance role is crucial in ensuring that Transnet Engineering’s operations comply with internal and external risk and control frameworks. You will help the division meet its compliance obligations while managing risks effectively within the Supply Chain Management (SCM) processes. This position involves developing, maintaining, and monitoring compliance frameworks to mitigate potential risks, while embedding a strong culture of risk awareness.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will include a variety of exciting tasks that contribute to the successful implementation of compliance and risk management strategies:

Compliance & Risk Framework Alignment

  • Assist in the development and implementation of controls to address legal adherence and identified risks.
  • Help maintain a comprehensive compliance manual that aligns with applicable laws, rules, and standards.
  • Regularly review business-critical controls to ensure process owners mitigate risks effectively.

Training and Awareness

  • Develop and deliver training on compliance and risk management frameworks to SCM stakeholders.
  • Disseminate relevant compliance laws, standards, and updates across the division.
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness within the division.

Support & Monitoring

  • Provide continuous support and monitoring of compliance within SCM processes.
  • Assist with managing the Enterprise Risk Management process within SCM.
  • Help identify, analyze, and evaluate SCM business risks, ensuring treatment actions are in place to address them.

Audit & Governance

  • Conduct compliance audits and provide second-line defense on procurement transactions.
  • Support corporate governance and assist Transnet’s internal audits as required.
  • Regularly report on compliance and risk mitigation progress within SCM.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • National Diploma in Supply Chain, Legal & Commercial, Risk Management, Auditing, or Compliance Management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Compliance or Risk Management within a Supply Chain Management environment.
  • Auditing experience within SCM is highly advantageous.
  • Supervisory experience would be a plus.
