The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) is offering an exciting opportunity for Junior Desktop Support Engineers to join their team in the Northern Region on a permanent basis. Position Objective:
As a Junior Desktop Support Engineer, you will provide day-to-day technical support and help manage the technology infrastructure in line with SANRAL’s business needs. Your key responsibilities will include providing first and second-line support for end-user computing, managing IT service requests, resolving incidents, and ensuring that all SANRAL IT systems, applications, and devices are secure and operational.
Minimum Requirements:
To apply for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:
- A Certificate in Information Technology at an NQF Level 5.
- At least two years of relevant desktop support experience in an ICT environment.
Advantageous Qualifications:
While not required, the following qualifications would be an added advantage:
- A National Diploma in IT at an NQF Level 6.
- Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, A+, N+, or Microsoft Technical Qualifications (MCSE).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies, especially:
- Office 365
- MS Exchange Online
Technical Competencies:
- The ability to prioritize calls for implementation and manage expectations.
- A strong service/customer orientation.
- Knowledge of the latest technological trends to suggest new technologies and improve the organization’s current framework.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Management of Systems (ITIL Methodologies):
- Responding promptly to calls and requests logged on HelpDesk and resolving them efficiently.
- Collaborating with regional teams to manage specific IT challenges, ensuring smooth operations across all SANRAL locations.
- Following the ITIL frameworks for change management, incident management, and problem management.
2. Mobility and End-User Computing Support:
- Administering and supporting end-user devices (desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, etc.) across SANRAL regions.
- Providing technical assistance for SANRAL systems, ensuring uninterrupted system operation.
- Supporting the setup and configuration of all SANRAL applications.
- Maintaining a high level of user satisfaction by responding promptly to support requests.
3. Incident and Request Management:
- Responding to, analyzing, and resolving incidents and service requests through SANRAL’s Service Management tools.
- Escalating unresolved issues to the appropriate service providers or internal teams within SLA timelines.
- Monitoring recurring issues and recommending long-term fixes based on root cause analysis.
4. IT Asset and Compliance Management:
- Maintaining an accurate inventory of SANRAL’s IT assets and ensuring proper tagging and lifecycle management.
- Conducting regular asset audits and coordinating with the Asset Management team for asset returns, disposals, and donations.
- Ensuring compliance with SANRAL’s IT policies and governance frameworks.
