Media Liaison Specialist

Department: Private Office of the Executive Mayor (POEM)
Branch: Office of the Chief of Staff
Location: Metropolitan Centre, 158 Civic Boulevard, Braamfontein
Remuneration: R701,904.84 per annum (all-inclusive cost to company)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and a National Diploma in Media Studies/Communications/Marketing/Journalism/Public Relations Management or a related field (NQF Level 6).
  • 3 – 4 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of media functions and concepts.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Primary Functions:

  • Develop and manage media relations between the Office of the Mayor and the media.
  • Create and implement communications/media strategies for the MMC.
  • Arrange press conferences, information sessions, and interviews.
  • Compile media statements and manage media inquiries.
  • Foster strong relationships with the media and external stakeholders.

Key Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management, event management, and people management abilities.
  • Networking, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • Emotional intelligence and the ability to work independently.

Manager: Policy and Planning

Remuneration: R931,352.88 per annum (all-inclusive cost to company)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, Law, or a related field (NQF Level 7).
  • 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in legislative, parliamentary, or public sector environments.

Primary Functions:

  • Provide strategic support and policy development to the Executive Mayor and Mayoral Committee.
  • Lead the Integrated Development Planning processes.
  • Develop strategies for engagement with stakeholders to foster trust and collaboration.
  • Coordinate and manage research projects, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of the political and legislative framework in South Africa.
  • Time management and the ability to work independently.
  • Confidentiality and the capacity to work with senior government officials and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
